What's up everyone? This is Dr. TJ An. Quick question. Are you a private practice owner, a physician or dentist, anyone running a practice? And every time someone brings up AI, you're not alone, but secretly you have no idea what it actually is. So maybe you're a little on the fence about it too. Maybe you're a little afraid of it. So if that's you,
Why AI Feels So Confusing
SPEAKER_00this video is for you. Every single week you're hearing about AI. AI is going to change medicine. AI is going to do your charting. AI is going to answer your phones, run your front desk, maybe even replace you. But here's the truth. Most doctors I talk to are nodding along again, but deep down they have no idea what the actual AI is. In this video, I'm going to give you the real picture, no heavy jargon, but I'm not going to dumb it down either. I'm going to give you the actual map. By the end of this video, you will understand what AI is, where terms like machine learning or generative AI, why it can suddenly read and write like a person, and exactly where it belongs in your practice. So this is not technical. You don't need to be a tech person. You just need about 10 minutes. Are you ready? Let's get into it. Okay, let's get to the slide deck AI for doctors, what it actually is and what isn't. So first I want to talk about the biggest misconception, right? Most doctors hear the word AI, they picture a robot, something that thinks like a human, walks around, makes decisions on its own. It's getting close, but that's still science fiction. That's not what we're dealing with here. So let me reset the picture for you. The reality, it is a
The Biggest AI Misconception
SPEAKER_00powerful tool. It means it assists, suggests, and accelerates many tasks and roles, but human is still always in control. So think of three circles, one inside the other. The biggest circle, as you can see, is artificial intelligence. The broad idea of machine doing tasks that normally need humans. Inside that, the smaller circle, machine learning. And inside that, even smaller circle, generative AI. So let me explain each one in plain English. AI is the big family, the broad idea of machine
AI Versus Machine Learning Explained
SPEAKER_00doing tasks that normally need human intelligence, but it's been around for decades. Assistants like Siri, Alexa, Google, they are all AI-powered tools that have existed already over a decade. Machine learning, that's the next circle inside. Instead of programmer writing out every single rule by hand, you show the computer thousands and thousands of examples and it runs the pattern on its own. Think about how you learn to recognize a clinical condition, right? Nobody gave you a written rule book for every possible lesion. Does that make sense? Like skin lesion, for example? You saw hundreds of them until you you kind of know when you see it. So machine learning works the same way. It learns from the examples. Generative AI, that's the new hot, trendy thing going on in the past four or five years. So what's exploding now? Um smaller circle, right? So that's the kind of next level of machine learning. That's the ChatGPT you've seen, Cloud, uh, Gemini stuff you keep hearing about. Does that make sense, guys? So AI is the family. Machine learning is how it learns. Generative AI is what's exploding right now by being able to predict next word and phrases. So how did a computer suddenly get so good at language? And from all of that, right, they learn the patterns of how we communicate. So now when you type a question, it predicts the most useful response word by word based on those patterns. That's why it can write you a patient handout or summarize a research paper in seconds. It's predicting language
Why Generative AI Sounds Human
SPEAKER_00extremely well. Well, so that's why you've heard AI hallucinates, because actually it's not hallucinating, it's what it was meant to do, predict language. So think about it, that's a very different thing than understanding. And I'll come back to why that matters. Oh, by the way, if this is making AI feel less scary and more useful, do me a quick favor and hit that subscribe button. I put out videos every week on AI, practice growth, and building a practice you actually love. It's free, but it helps our channel grow. Okay, let's get back to it. So I want to explain the concept of multimodal AI. So here's where it gets interesting. And this is very recent. In the beginning, these tools were text-only. You typed, it typed back. Today, the good ones are what we call multimodal model. It means the AI can now work across not only text, but images, voices, and even videos.
Multimodal AI Changes The Interface
SPEAKER_00You've seen those AI generated videos and you know things like that, right? Digital twin, clone. Why should you care as a doctor about this? Because it changes how you use it. You can talk to it instead of typing. Or you can show it image and ask about it. For example, x-rays, clinical pictures, right? Also, you can hand it a voice memo and get back a clean summary, like scribe, right? Ambient AI. So it's no longer just a chat box. It's becoming something you interact with the way you interact with a smart assistant. It's all possible because of multimodal AI. What is this stuff actually good at? On the gray side, AI is great at these things: language, writing, drafting, summarizing, rephrasing, repetition, the same task over and over without getting tired. And being a thinking partner, thought partner. You bounce an idea with it and it gives you a starting point and you can brainstorm with it. What AI is not,
What AI Is Great At
SPEAKER_00this is the other side. It's not a replacement for your clinical judgment. It does not diagnose your patients. It is not always right. Remember, I said it predicts language? That's why it can confidently, as if it is true, tell you something that is flat out wrong. We call it hallucination. And it is not a magic button that runs your practice while you sleep yet. So if it is great at language and repetition, but bad at judgment and accuracy, where does it actually belong in a medical practice? I believe three buckets that you can deploy and augment AI. Patient messages, front desk responses, follow-ups. Bucket two, admin and documents, drafting notes, summarizing records, organizing information, again, those uh it's Excel at uh your website, your social media, your patient education. Now notice
Three Buckets For Private Practices
SPEAKER_00something. None of these three buckets is a practicing medicine, actually. The AI handles the work around the medicine. So you can focus on the medicine, and that's the whole game, I believe. So mindset shift, and this is what I want you to walk away with. AI is not here to replace you. I'm gonna say again, AI is not here to replace you. AI won't replace doctors, but doctors who use AI will replace the doctors who don't. So think about that for a second. It's not about the technology, it's about whether you
Adapt Or Get Left Behind
SPEAKER_00adapt. Charles Darwin said this, right? It's not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent. It's the one who most adaptable to change. Environment is changing big time right now. AI is not coming to medicine, it's already here. Practices that integrate it thoughtfully will move faster, communicate better, and serve more patients with less burnout. Alright, so let's recap the map real quick. AI is the big family. Inside it is machine learning, which learns from examples, and inside that is generative AI, which creates new content. NLP, now you know what that means, is why it can read and write like a person. Multimodal means it now works across text, but also image, voice, and video. So it's great at language, repetition, and being a thinking partner. It's not a replacement for your judgment, and it's not always right. And in your practice, it lives in three buckets. Remember that communication aspect, admin aspect, and marketing aspect. The medicine stays with you. And remember, AI will not replace doctors. But doctors who use AI will replace doctors who don't. So don't be on the wrong side of that. Now look, this video was the what and the why. The big picture. I know the next question in your head is okay, TJ, how do I actually do this in my practice? Well, that's the part that takes more than one video. So that's exactly why I built training uh specifically for private practice owners who want to stop being afraid of this stuff and start using it without becoming a tech person
